About Tumbleweed
Tumbleweed or tweed was born and raised in a small rural community in Ontario, Canada.... Her legal and Christian name given was Sheila Diane... and she was the middle child of 2 other siblings... an older brother and younger sister..

Her love of horses and animals in general started at a very young age... and her passion for the horse really blossomed when her dad decided her older brother should have a pony... ( dad himself was farm raised but back then the horses were used to work the land ) She still recalls that first day that he purchased that pony...Duke was his name,  and a pretty little shetland he was.... It was a very cold blusterly winter day, with no trailer to bring him home.. mom and kids followed behind as dad walked that little pony home, he must have walked near to 12 miles that day in that bitter cold....

Such days are long gone now but memories remain etched forever in ones mind.... she began watching and learning that very first day and couldn't get enough of that little pony...the day dad harnessed him up for a sleigh ride... built by his own hands...sure was a comical site.. and one which little Duke wasn't all too pleased with either...but eventully he settled down and dad... one by one, took us all for a sleigh ride...

During the course of her childhood her interest in horses increased and she began showing her pony (horse in latter years) at local county fairs and horse shows... competing in junior halter and western pleasure classes...not having a trailer didn't stop her... she would just saddle up and ride her horse wherever she needed to go... this became a constant thing in her childhood and she rode her horse everywhere..why she would ride so far from home at times that it would be too far to return that same day... luckily in those days the community was small and neighbors and friends graciously accommodated her and horse for those overnight visits.....

Music was another thing that her parents insisted she learn, so she studied classical piano for  several years, and performed around the county for various events & entertaining old people at old age homes... at the ripe old age of 12 she became a regular site at the piano on Sunday mornings, periodically filling in on the organ when needed ....although being busy a lot of the time she somehow had the time to teach herself how to play the acccordian as well.. and she enjoyed getting away from the classical and hymninals that she played and was able to pop out a few polkas and fun music.... today however... tweed's instrument of choice is the harmonica (she started learning to play this while riding horses alone on the trail... playin old ballads and hymns was an easy way to warn woodland critters that someone was coming and it proved its usefulness very well in spook prevention... it also didn't seem so lonely on the trail and the horses seemed to enjoy it!  Presently she has now undertook the task of trying to play acoustic guitar, although it may be quite some time before she will she the fruits of this endevour...

The name Tumbleweed came many years ago from a truck driver  wanting  to know why she was dragging such a large tumbleweed under her truck as she was cruising down I-20 in west Texas...from that day on the name has stuck with her ... a name that is more intune with the inner self than even she could have imagined.. she has always been a person who enjoyed travelling, and has spent her life roaming...luckily her job gave her the freedom for extensive travel...  but finally set down roots in Oklahoma.... when she met her present husband Billy, in Shreveport La. he relayed at the time he was a native Oklahoman who was born and raised in Talogah, but had been residing in Creek County,OK.  for many years.. an instant attraction started when he says  "Quote: "He first saw her paint horse hat, ariat boots and blue eyes..." for her it was his laid back way of walking and talking as his beatin up old cowboy hat...Inwardly her mind says "now their's an old cowboy if I ever saw one"  and wasn't too far wrong... by the time of their meeting he no longer rode the bulls or broncs... serious injuries from a bad ride in 79 had put him out of the rodeo circuit...she always new that one day she would be destined to marry a cowboy and have a small horse ranch... today they live a modest lifestyle in rural Oklahoma....

For several years she spent her time running the day to day operations of the ranch while Billy worked... with almost 12 head of horses at the time she was kept busy daily either workin, riden or trainin their younger horses.... being alone most of time you would often see her riding one horse and pony'in another... often riding 15 -20 miles everyday... her love of the horse never diminished over the years and she has become an active member in various riding clubs within the state of Oklahoma.. over the years she has strived to improve her relationship with horses... she has worked with and handled horse most her entire life and continues to study the equines and their behaviours... studies including such things as equine massage therapy to Monty Roberts the horse whisper techniques ... a few years ago she became almost obsessed with outfitting and wilderness packing so she packed her things for a time and flew to Wyo.  where she attended, trained and certified on the credidation course at Wyoming's Northwest Wilderness Packers and Horsemanship College.... the skills and people she met here will forever remain a treasure that she carries deeply engrained  in her mind and heart.... forever grateful ..

Trail Riding has become one of Tweeds greatest passion and has outgrown the need to show ... she finds comfort and solace in the solitude of trail riding and the cowboy lifestyle... and agrees with a quote that Ronald Reagan once said..." the best thing for the inside of a man ( or woman)  is the outside of a horse "

Tweed started Tumbleweed Horses due mostly for the love of  the lifestyle.... thorugh the years she has met many people who either used to own horses and for some reason or other they have lost that ability to continue owning their own horses whether due to illness, financial hardships, divorce or job relocation... and those that have lost the ability to ride always state how much they miss it... Tumbleweed's business is a new concept and various from the norm for a horse rental business.... these rides are geared to the more adept skilled riders....her thoughts being this... there are plenty of riding stables around the country who cater to the beginner and novice riders and those who only want to ride 1/2 hr - 1 hr rides ... that is enough for some people... but what about the other... more experienced riders.... when trail riding stable's are the only  available  option ....experienced riders come away frustrated because the horses were nags and their no challenge or enjoyment to the ride....believe me I know I've been there.. done that....not fun ... not at all !!!

Tumbleweed Horses offers the closest trail riding experience anyone can get without actually owning your own horse... she provides her own personal horses for rent for those horse lovers who enjoy trail riding, the outdoors and the cowboy lifestyle...even if you ride but have never tried trail riding you can learn very quickly thru hands on interaction how to set up your basic camp.... safety for horses on and off the trail...overall horse health and injury prevention issues, and first aid treatments  (that typical trail horses are prone to,  and that you must watch for when riding a horse for several hours a day) ,..after all horses are not all fun and play.. they also require a lot of work and attention as any horse owner knows.... good horses take time and energy .... anything negelected can go bad or become useless...there is no other feeling like it when you live and camp with your horse... the special bond that horse and rider can acheive are priceless... for a horse lover ... the ultimate in satisfaction for peace and soup for the soul...

God Bless You All,
